Melaka Skyline to Transform with Chinese RM3.5bn Investment

Melaka is set to benefit from a sizeable RM3.5 billion ($840 million) investment, spread across seven ambitious projects. This robust financial injection arrives courtesy of Cheng Ho International Trade and Cultural City Centre Sdn Bhd, in tandem with Chinese investors.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh confirmed the developments, stating that the projects will kick off once state authorities greenlight the implementation process. These initiatives, stemming from Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with Chinese firms, will significantly bolster Melaka’s economic portfolio and fortify the already strong Sino-Malaysian relations.

Arguably the crown jewel among these ventures is the proposed 88-storey Asean-China Tower. This impressive edifice is set to rise within the confines of the Melaka Waterfront Economic Zone (M-WEZ), heralding a new chapter in the region’s architectural prowess.

Additionally, a medley of other projects has been outlined, namely the Asean-China Made Products Outlet and Exhibition Centre, the Asean-China International Grand Bazaar, and the Malaysia-China Metaverse Database Centre. These, alongside a High-Level Professional Training Base, will be brought to fruition under the aegis of the China Center Overseas Joint Development Preparatory Committee.

Health-focused initiatives are also among the planned undertakings. The Health E-Atomisation Industrial Park, a venture by Oriental Vaping and E-Atomisation-Malaysia and China Sdn Bhd, is anticipated to make substantial strides in the health sector. Its counterpart, the Asean Health E-Atomisation Forum, helmed by Oriental Vaping and E-Atomisation Ltd (UK), is expected to enhance dialogue and collaboration in the realm of e-atomisation.

Lastly, the Asean Cup 2023 (Melaka) International Regatta Competition will add a touch of sporting excitement to the mix. This international competition will undoubtedly spotlight Melaka on the world stage, attracting visitors and competitors from across the globe.

In conclusion, this substantial investment in Melaka underscores China’s ongoing commitment to fostering growth in the region. These seven diverse projects promise to propel Melaka forward, driving economic development, enhancing bilateral ties, and enriching the cultural and sporting fabric of the state.
